Compassionate Therapy

We're not meant to endure life alone. Having a compassionate and skilled therapist by your side can make the journey less challenging and help you live a more rewarding life. Michael Ham, LCSW-R provides comprehensive and personalized virtual mental health counseling and therapy, specializing in anxiety, depression, sexual compulsion, and LGBTQ+ issues. He offers individual, couples, and family therapy sessions.

Meet Your Therapist

As a passionate therapist in private practice, I develop a personalized, evidenced-based approach for each client.  My style fosters growth and healing while taking into account each client’s unique experiences and needs.  Over the past three decades, I have worked in a wide range of settings including hospitals, outpatient clinics, schools, prisons, and private practice. I have a particular interest in reaching clients of different cultural backgrounds who would not normally seek therapy. I tend to emphasize the here and now, moving forward while sometimes looking back to understand how our experiences have shaped us.  Although we may address childhood and past issues, the overall emphasis is on the issues you are dealing with at present and addressing the obstacles to current goals. I like to use the analogy of driving and the challenges we face in life.  We have a large windshield where we spend much of our time looking and moving forward, with maximum clarity....aware of and dealing with our obstacles.  We glance back from time to time at our very small rearview mirror to ensure our safety.   It’s an honor to be in this role. I help clients open up about personal and often painful issues and work through them.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

I believe its important to adapt to the needs of clients rather than expecting them to adapt to me.  Having said that, I have found a Cognitive Behavioral Approach (CBT) particularly effective with the majority of the clients I work with.

Using this approach, I address the following:

Situation

Automatic Thoughts

Emotions

Behavior

Services

Specialties

What Clients Say

“I will be forever grateful.  I appreciated his excellence and knowledge—how he handled this with delicacy and passion.  He is very thoughtful.  I could not ask for more.  All of my fear is gone.  Life is good.  I am now full of joy, happiness and positive thoughts.”
